Unity
As I have touched on, there were many iterations of Orders before the Jedi Alliance, and at one point the Order of the Jedi and the Jedi Honor had begun talking about working together. I had gone to the Jedi Honor and asked Master Obaanah if a union was beneficial to both sides, and it was agreed upon shortly thereafter to join forces as the Jedi Alliance.
After struggling to find ourselves a spot in the Sirius System, we decided to take refuge at the old sanctuary grounds of New Holstice. It was here that for the first time the Jedi were truly united. In so doing, we were strong enough to protect ourselves from most evil.
However, the Dark Jedi were also strong on their homeworld of Koriban. An evil and cold place, Koriban was the home of the Dark Lords of the Sith, a union of all Dark Jedi in the Galaxy.
For a time, there were many a skirmish and many issues. A handful of us could travel to the other planets on diplomatic errands. Master Astra and Lady Serenity were two who aided me in diplomatic efforts, and they were also friends. We traveled much by the means of ambassadorial labors.
There was a time, though, where the Knights of the Jedi Alliance were not as pleased with things. There were rumblings of disfavor and of complaint. No diplomacy could quell their need to be heard. And so we came together, Masters and Knights and Padawans alike, and worked through the issues. We transformed some of the rules and customs on New Holstice and made it a better place.
The numbers grew even more during this revitalized period and we even began joint venture with another major order, the Jedi Masters. Uniting with Master Aridian’s Jedi would have made the Jedi Alliance truly soar as it did in the Old Republic.
Alas, that happened not. Again our story turns by the fall of the Jedi Alliance, which will be discussed later. But all was not lost for the Jedi, and in varied and various orders did they strive in the future and to this day.
Each order brings together Jedi in those areas of the Galaxy. Within each distinct group is a union of its own. So although this chapter ends with the mention of the fall of the Jedi Alliance, we see several different descriptions of unity here.
In the formation of the Jedi Alliance, we have a union to become stronger, a mutual agreement. In the internal reworkings of the Jedi Alliance, we have a union for a common goal – working through our differences that may complement one another. In the issues with Jedi that lash out and betray us, the council and Knights and the order as a whole must come together for strength and harmony. And lastly, the individual unions that comprise the various orders today bring together Jedi across the galaxy in localized groups.
In a way, these unions are united by one common goal: the preservation of life and the pursuit of oneness with the Force. The Jedi Way. As an old friend Master Leonardis once said, “One of the roles of a good Jedi Order is to welcome new centres of Jedi study where they spring forth.” Indeed all Jedi must come together and help further the study of our ways. This is a union in which not all peoples of the Galaxy believe.
So when you think of unity, think about these ideas. I have not even touched on internal unity – oneness of self, self-control, patience, and obedience. These will be discussed at length in this book.
